This disease is the thickening of the walls of the arteries due the excess cholesterol which cannot be excreted fast enough by the blood circulatory system and are therefore deposited in artery walls. This substances build up in the inner lining of an artery is called plaque. The plaque can affect any artery but the most serious effects are in the heart, brain and kidney.

High cholesterol is a condition that can lead to serious disease if not checked. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is normally produced in the human body. It is needed to form cell walls an to make many hormones. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) carries cholesterol to various parts of the body. Take care of your teeth

Healthy gums do not bleed suddenly or when you brush your teeth, so bleeding gums are abnormal and meant that something is wrong. One form of scurvy is bleeding in the gums. Gums may be injured by brushing teeth using hard or splayed toothbrushed or by careless flossing. Gums may also bleed because of bacteria or plaque build up in the space between gum and teeth. Inflamed or infected gums bleed easily because there will be more blood cell to defend and fight off the bacteria.

In gingivitis, gums are inflamed and later spreads to the periodontium (tissues that support the teeth). If left untreated, it can cause the teeth to loosen, leading to loss of healthy teeth.

Scurvy is caused by a lack of vitamin C in the diet. There are various types of vitamin C supplements to treat bleeding gums. A person whose gums bleed or whose gums red, itchy, swollen and spongy (symptoms of gums disease) should see a dentist. He should see a doctor if he has sudden bleeding of bruising in the other parts of the skin (bleeding disorders).

The dentist would remove and clean the pockets of bacterial on dental plaque. He should also scale or polish your teeth to remove tartar (harder dental plaque). A tootbrush with soft bristles should be used. As soon as the bristles of a toothbrush become splayed out, the toothbrush should be replaced. Brushing and flossing teeth must be done properly in order to take care of the gum margins well.

How to floss:

• Take about 30cm of floss wind each and around your two middle fingers.using your thumb and forefinger and a slow sawing motion, slip the floss between the teeth.
• Direct the floss against the tooth, rubbing gently from the gum line to the top edge of the tooth. The same action should be carried out for all the other teeth.
• Flossing should be done before brushing teeth to get rid of food particles and plaque in areas where a toothbrush may not be able to reach.
• Flossing should be done gently so that delicate gums are not damaged. The floss should never be forced between the teeth where the gap is too small.

How to brush:

• Choose a toothbrush with a small head in order to reach all your teeth and gum margins.

• A good toothbrush should have medium nylon bristles with rounded ends.
• Frayed toothbrushes should be replaced or toothbrushes should be changed every 4 – 6 months.
• Toothpastes that contain fluride help to prevent tooth decay. You must brush your teeth after every meal and before going to bed at night.
• Brushing should be done in a systematic manner so that no area is neglected. The gums and the inner, outer and chewing surfaced ot the teeth should be brushed with a small circular motion.

Acne or pimples

e72499ead0c17e42

Have you ever faced this situation? I’m sure it like bad night dream for you especially for woman. This moments make meAcne is a term for a variety of symptoms such as pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. Acne starts when the sebaceous glands overproduce oil or sebum, secreted through the pores. Sebum carries dead cells away with it but the overproduction of sebum blocks the pores with a sticky mass of oil and dead cells. When this happends the bacteria which are normally found in the skin changes this mass into compounds (pus). These compounds irritate and cause small glands to burst, resulting in inflammation and the development of unattractive pimples filled with pus.

Pimples usually appear on the face, neck, chest, back and sometimes the scalp. They start appearing at puberty, between the ages of the 10 and 17 as small red bumps on the skin and sometimes large cysts or nodules. Pimples occur in both male and female adolescents but males are more likely to have a severe form of acne. Pimple normally clear up after adolescence. At puberty, the level of the sex hormones in both male and female rise and this stimulates the production of oil or sebum. Pimples or acne can also be due to heredity, stress, certain drugs which will stimulate the production of sebum, or exposure to grease which will block hair follicles.

Below is the factors that cause acne :

Heredity: With the exception of very severe acne, most people do not have the problem exactly as their parents did. Almost everyone has some acne at some point in their life.
Food: Parents often tell teens to avoid pizza, chocolate, greasy and fried foods, and junk food. While these foods may not be good for overall health, they don’t cause acne or make it worse. Although some recent studies have implicated milk and dairy products in aggravating acne, these findings are far from established.
Dirt: As mentioned above, “blackheads” are oxidized oil, not dirt. Sweat does not cause acne, therefore, it is not necessary to shower instantly after exercise for fear that sweat will clog pores. On the other hand, excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin.
Stress: Some people get so upset by their pimples that they pick at them and make them last longer. Stress, however, does not play much of a direct role in causing acne.
Hormones: Some women break out cyclically, but most women (and men) don’t. Some oral contraceptive pills may help relieve acne, but unless a woman has abnormal menstrual periods and excessive hair growth, it’s unlikely that hormones play much of a role in causing acne. Pregnancy has a variable effect on acne; some women report that they clear up completely, and others get worse, while many others see no overall change.
Cosmetics: Most cosmetic and skin-care products are not pore-clogging (“comedogenic”). Of the many available brands, those which are listed as “water-based” or “oil-free” are generally a better choice.
Pressure: In some patients, pressure from helmets, chinstraps, collars, suspenders, and the like can aggravate acne.
Drugs: Some medications may cause or worsen acne, such as those containing iodides, bromides, or oral or injected steroids (either the medically prescribed prednisone or the steroids that bodybuilders or athletes take). Other drugs that can cause or aggravate acne are anticonvulsant medications and lithium, which is used to treat bipolar disorder. Most cases of acne, however, are not drug-related.

This is some step if you have acne:

• Eat food rich in vitamin A such as liver and eggs to maintain a healthy skin.
• Eat dark green or orange vegetables such as spinach and carrots and orange fruits such as apricots and mangoes as they contain beta-carotene which the body will convert to vitamin A. So you should make sure that the diet contains plenty of polyunsaturated fats, such as in corn oil, sunflower oil, some margarines, nuts and oily fish and vitamin C and E.
• Clean your skin gently
• Try not to touch your skin
• Avoid the sun
